Within the book Heathcliff and Catherine share a very intimate and passionate bond and there are several ways this bond is exposed. For example Catherine passionately shares her personal feelings toward Heathcliff "My love for Heathcliff resembles the eternal rocks beneath: a source of little visible delight, but necessary. Nelly, I am Heathcliff! He's always, always in my mind: not as a pleasure, any more than I am always a pleasure to myself, but as my own being. So don't talk of our separation again: it is impracticable." (Bronte, 84). She explains that she and Heathcliff are one, they are a part of each other and she and him cannot stand the thought of being separated and never seeing each other again. They are so deeply and passionately in love that they cannot think about anything but being with each other. However there is a time when Cathy speaks ill of Heathcliff, she says this to Nelly "Nelly, I see now, you think me a selfish wretch; but did it never strike you that is Heathcliff and I married, we should be beggars? " (Bronte, 83). Heathcliff over hears this conversation and runs away but later when he returns he is a handsome and rich young man. A part of me thinks it is so he can be the same social status and perhaps Catherine wouldn't be so embarrassed by him. He gives up his three years for hard work, so he can reach Catherine's standards and make her proud to love him. Working hard and leaving a person you love so much for three years, just so he you could prove that he was good enough for her shows a really significant amount of love and devotion. I feel as if this is a very devoted sacrifice for someone who you thought loved you so dearly but has discarded you.
I decided to research a little bit about what others are doing for the things they love. A man by the name of Lorenzo Nagreadie got in a fight with his girlfriend and he decided to apologize by making her a video. He took the time to construct this video and he spoke from the heart, telling her how much he loved her. (ending is a bit weird). He used technology to do something very thoughtful and special for her.
So my point being that some people still honor that everlasting, soul mates relationship. People still do sweet things to prove their love to another just like Heathcliff does for Catherine and vice versa. It is really heart warming to see people take time from their social media accounts and devices to appreciate and love the different aspects of their lives.
